Let’s not kid ourselves we loved WandaVision. A show featuring characters that acted as background characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The whole cast was on point with the extended characterization from Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda into the Scarlet Witch. Paul Bettany showing incredible range as the android Vision. Despite the amazing performances by the leads, a star turning performance by Kathryn Hahn as Agnes/Agatha Harkness was the standout out from this strange and lovable show.

WandaVision came out at the perfect time with a release date of January 15th 2021. We were so hungry for something coming from Marvel with the pandemic postponing so much content, we needed something and WandaVision was the perfect show for that. For nine episodes from January through March, we were enthralled with this comedy/mystery and it had us singing the catchy song “Agatha All Along”.

It is only fitting that after three years and Scarlet Witch upsettingly being the villain in the 2022 Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. We finally get to spend more time with Agatha Harkness again and this time we are getting a horror comedy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And right in time for the halloween season.

So beyond the timing and long wait, why are we excited for Agatha All Along? Well first off the return of Kathryn Hahn is key in our excitement, we know we will be spending more time with a character that we loved. Getting a backstory and continuation of the character could provide us with an interesting side of the Marvel universe. Some may ask “Do we really need a show on Agatha Harkness?”, well we can answer that with another question, “Did we need a show about Batman’s Butler? or Do we need a show on the Penguin?” We don’t need these shows but are happy they exist to spend more time with these characters.

We are excited to see witches in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and see how it is handled. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been teasing us with Horror with Doctor Strange in Multiverse of Madness and Werewolf by Night and now we are getting an entire series in the genre. The introduction of Aubrey Plaza into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is perfect as she adds a perfect bland of comedy and badass attitude that seems right at home in this series.

One of the things that is making us more and more excited is the promotional posters for the show. The promos are homage to horror and mystery films and shows. The highlights being the homages to Rocky Horror Picture Show and True Detective. If these are any indication to what the show will be like, we are in for a hell of a ride.

Seeing the early buzz and the fun that the crew had creating this series, this may be another surprise from Marvel. Between Echo, X-Men ’97, Deadpool and Wolverine and now Agatha All Along, Marvel seems to have bounced back in 2024 and has us excited for the future.
